Barbara Anna “Jenny” Steele age 78, was a loving mother who passed away Sunday, October 6, 2024 at Valley Health Care Center, Chilhowie, Va.
Born January 1, 1946 to late Gregory Beale Sr. and Anna B. Steele, she was known all of her life by the name of “Jenny” which was given to her at birth by her Uncle George Steele.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Eva-Louvenia Steele; brother, Gregory Beale “Bubba’ Steele Jr.; grandson, Gregory A. A. Rashad Jr.
Jenny spent most of her time working in the Church which she loved and singing in the choir. She started working in the Church at an early age but she did not fully give her life to the Lord until she was 27 years old. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Marion, VA. Before becoming a member at First Church she was at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church where she was raised until adulthood. She was one of the last graduates from Carnegie High School; received training as a Nurse’s Aid; worked at Smyth County Community Hospital before going to DC to attend Career Academy where she received a degree in nursing; graduated from Wytheville Community College with a degree in Police Science, Law Enforcement and Correction; and attained from Virginia Intermont College a degree in Psychology and Sociology. She worked various jobs before her retirement from Marion Correctional Treatment Center and also served on state and county committees.
Jenny leaves behind to mourn her death one son and daughter-in-law, Gregory A. A. and Denise L. Rashad; one brother and sister-in-law, Hurley A. and Ursula Steele; one sister-in-law, Karen H. Steele; two grandsons, Jeremiah Trayvon Gregory Rashad and Nehemiah Tyrese Miguel Rashad; and a host of nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

The family will receive friends Saturday, October 12, 2024 from 12 until 1 p.m. at Fraziers’ Seaver-Brown Chapel, 237 East Main Street, Marion Va. Funeral services will begin at 1 p.m. with Bishop Nolan Wolfe officiating. Burial will follow at Round Hill Cemetery, Cemetery Street, Marion Va. Pall bearers will be Brock Hale, Steve Hale, Joseph Stovall, Keith Combs, Cedric Wolfe and Troy Wolfe.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Amos Carnegie Scholarship Fund.
