Argil James “Eskimo” Bartee, Jr., age 70, passed away on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at Pheasant Ridge Nursing & Rehab in Roanoke, Virginia, after an illness.
Born on March 26, 1955, in Savannah, Georgia, Jimmy proudly served in the U.S. Army as a diesel mechanic during the Vietnam War era. Jimmy was known as the life of the party, always ready with a smile, a joke, or a helping hand. He had a deep love for vintage automobiles, classic rock music, and tinkering with anything mechanical. His kindness, humor, and generous spirit touched everyone who knew him.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, Argil James Bartee, Sr. and Emma Jean Murray Bartee, and his grandmother, Virginia Hensley Philippi.
He is survived by his sister, Ramona “Mona” Bartee; his niece, Jaimie Van Antwerp; his stepdaughter, Amanda Pugh Wheeler; his special friend, Carole Pugh; and many beloved cousins.
He will be laid to rest in the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery, Bagging Plant Road, Dublin VA.
