"I am whole again and with the Lord."

Anna "Butchie" Barger Crabtree, age 80, passed away Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at Valley Health Care Center, Chilhowie, Va.

Having fought many health obstacles during her years, she died with dignity and grace, always strong willed and with conviction to never give up. Anna is survived by her precious niece and nephew, Brenda Barger Faulkner and husband, C.L., Laymond Barger and wife, Debbie; special great-nephews, Cole Faulkner and Hunter Barger and wife, Stephanie; great-niece, Jordan Faulkner; great-great-nephew, Grayson Barger; many cousins and friends.

She and her family give a heartfelt thanks to her precious caregivers, Sheila Elledge, Beverly Evans, and Pam Jackson. So many people loved her and took such good care of her during this difficult time.

Anna was reared in the Ceres community of Bland County and graduated from Ceres High School. She attended Radford College and received her B.S. degree in Home Economics in 1959. Graduate studies were pursued at the University of Virginia. Anna began her professional career as a Home Economics Instructor at Marion College, a position she held for eight years. She became a Home and Family Living Instructor with the Blue Ridge Job Corps in Marion, and later became a Home Economist with Appalachian Power Company. In 1976 she became an Extension Agent in Home Economics in Smyth County and was later appointed Unit Director. After 10 years as an Extension Employee, Anna retired on April 30, 1986.

She was known for her warm hospitality and mastery of the kitchen. She had a deep appreciation for even the smallest blessings. Anna enjoyed camping, gourmet cooking, reading and traveling. She was active in numerous professional and civic organizations. A few of those were Wytheville Community College Board of Directors, Smyth County Social Services Board, Smyth County Chamber of Commerce, DAR, and Virginia Farm Bureau.
