 Algie Gray Crouse age 98, passed away Monday, January 20, 2025 at Commonwealth Senior Living, Abingdon, Va.

 He was the son of the late Minnie Fox and William A. Crouse, and a resident of the Wassum Valley area for 67 years and 29 years in the Fox Valley area. Algie graduated from Marion High School in 1944 and was immediately drafted into the Army to serve with the 104th Infantry Division in the World War II for two years. Upon his return home, he taught in a one-room school at Mt. Zion for one year, and was then employed by Brunswick Corporation for four years. In 1951 he joined the firm of Lemmon Transport Company where he worked for nineteen years, at which time he became co-owner for fourteen years until he sold his interests in 1984, at which time he retired. He was a member of the American Trucking Association, the National Accounting and Finance Council and the Virginia Highway Users Association. He served as Chairman of the Salvation Army for Smyth County for ten years, a director of the First National Bank of Saltville and BBT Bank for several years and was a director of the Settlers Museum of Southwest Virginia, and a member of Automated Musical Instruments of America. Algie was a Life Member of VFW Post 4667 and a member of the First United Methodist Church.

 In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 56 years, Patsy Pickle Crouse; parents, Minnie Fox and William A. Crouse, and brothers, James W. Crouse and wife June, Elmer Crouse and wife, Evelyn, Raymond Crouse and wife, Arkey, and Arnold I. Crouse and wife, Virginia.

 Algie is survived by his nieces, Estelle Bluhm of Chattanooga, Tenn. and Vicky Smith of Callaway, Va.; nephew, William Crouse and wife, Joyce of Troutville, Va.

 Special thanks to Commonwealth Assisted Living for their caring, compassion and concerns during Algie’s stay there. Also, special thanks and appreciation to the entire Farris and Rathin families for their dedicated help, support and caring over the years. 

 The family will receive friends Thursday, January 23, 2025 from 1 until 2 p.m. at Fraziers’ Seaver-Brown Chapel, 237 East Main Street, Marion, Va. Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. with Reverend Dr. James Bennington officiating. Graveside services will follow in Crouse-Wassum Family Cemetery, 1186 Wassum Valley Road, Marion, Va. with Military Rites rendered by the United States Army Funeral Honors Guard and Marion VFW Post #4667.

 In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 115 South Church Street, Marion, Va. 24354.
