Austinville, Va.
Albert Lee “Bob” Asbury age 93, died peacefully in his home with his family, Thursday, December 28, 2023.
Bob was born February 7, 1930 to the late Price and Mary Alice Armbrister. He was an avid fisherman with a great passion for gardening and would challenge his family to compete over whose garden was superior year after year. He was a devoted husband to his wife and loving companion, Virginia Asbury, and together they built a large family. He was a loving father to 8 children, and was a gentle giant to all of his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Bob retired from the Radford Arsenal in the 80’s and had many great friends from his time spent there. He will always be remembered for his hard work ethic – you couldn’t find a more hardworking person. Even in the summer of ’23, at 93 years old, he was very active and could be found gardening, fishing and mowing his property.
In addition to his parents Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Asbury; son, Gary Asbury; sons-in-law, Jimmy Fisher and Frederick Nester; granddaughter, Michelle Hudson; grandsons, Jamie Collins and Keith Nester; granddaughter-in-law, Melissa Nester; great-grandson, Andrew Smith; brothers, William Asbury and Kenneth Armbrister; sisters, Betty Huff and Alma Hall.
Bob is survived by his children, Linda Nester, Darlene Vaught, Kathy and Bill Martin, Shelby Fisher, Sheila Smith, Ricky Asbury and Sherry Jones; two sisters, Sylvia Archer and Carrie Huff; grandchildren, Lora and Jason Ash, Russell Martin, Robert Smith, Matthew and Elisha Asbury, Daniel Smith, Sheena Palmer, Amanda Kennedy, Joshua and Oriann Smith; great-grandchildren, Raven and Zachary Poskas, Kayla and William Dalton, Dakota Brewer, Jacob Kennedy, Zoie Hudson, Kristin Kennedy, Scarlett Smith, Walter Smith, Wyatt Smith, and Patience Taylor; great-great-grandchildren, Aleyah Nester, Peyton Poskas, Gracie Dalton and Alexander Quesenberry; several nieces and nephews and their families.
