Thelma Conner Foglesong

MARION, Va. Thelma Conner Foglesong, died the morning of Thursday, May 17, 2018 at the home where she was born 99 years ago. She was born December 3, 1918 in Marion, Va. to the late David Willis and Mattie Snider Conner. Thelma was the middle child, and the only girl of five children. She was a member of Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church most of her life and served in many capacities within the church as long as she was able. Thelma was a member of many organizations, including DAR and the Smyth County Retired Teachers. She began her 34 year teaching career at Pico Terrace Elementary School in Pulaski, Va. and continued teaching mostly in the Smyth County School System as a 5th grade elementary school teacher. Thelma enjoyed gardening, cooking and especially enjoyed eating desserts. She made a fabulous lemon meringue pie. Mrs. Foglesong loved her family and her home and thanks to their love and support she was able to remain in her earthly home until the moment she entered her Heavenly home. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Paul Foglesong; brothers, Fred D. Conner and wife, Alice, Ralph Conner and wife, Edith, Marvin Conner and wife, Bonnie, and Harold Conner. Thelma is survived by her daughter, Becky Sprinkle and husband, Walter of Marion, Va.; son, Paul David Foglesong of San Antonio, Texas; grandson, Brian Walter Sprinkle; sisters-in-law, June Mason Conner and Betty Sue Thompson, all of Marion, Va.; many nieces and nephews; and special caregiver, Sonia Hall of Marion, Va. Funeral services will be held Sunday, May 20, 2018 at 2 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Pastor Rebecca Reed officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the family at www.seaverbrown.com. Becky, Walter, Brian and David Even at 99 years, Aunt Thelmas life was too short. We are saddened we wont get to visit with her again in this life. She was an extraordinary woman and I continue to have the utmost respect and admiration for her. I loved her quiet, gentle ways and I will fondly remember her smile and laugh. I have such pleasant memories of her. I only wish I couldve spent more time with her. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Much love to you all. Karen Conner Dalton and family
