Maxine Phelps Reedy

SUGAR GROVE, Va.

MAXINE PHELPS REEDY, age 84, passed away Monday, April 8, 2019 at Francis Marion Manor.

Mrs. Reedy was Sugar Grove Royalty, and was loved by her students from the Sugar Grove School where she taught most of her 38 ½ years. She loved children and enjoyed catching up with her former students and they loved her. Maxine was true to her community and was active in the Rye Valley Ruritan Club and the Red Hat Society. She loved her Elizabeth United Methodist Church family and was a long-time faithful member. Maxine loved sports – especially her Hokies, but most of all she loved her family, and enjoyed spending time eating and shopping. She was a positive force in so many lives and will be missed.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Reedy; parents, Wayne and Madge Phelps; and brother, Raymond D. Phelps.

Maxine is survived by her son, Ben Reedy and wife, Pam of Marion, Va.; brother, George C. Phelps and wife, Betty of Laurinburg, N.C.; granddaughters, Lauren and Claire Rupe; special friends, Glenna Keyes, Ann Patterson and Sandy Linkous; and several nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to the staff at Francis Marion Manor for their wonderful care.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Sugar Grove Elementary School, Attn: Kathy Thompson, 242 Teas Road, Sugar Grove, Va. 24375, to construct a shelter for their playground.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 10, 2019 at 2 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Pastor Kenny Price officiating. Burial will follow in Ridgelawn Cemetery, Sugar Grove, Va. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 12 noon until the time of service.

Ben, I am so sorry to hear about the passing of your mother. Maxien was a beautiful lady inside and out. I will never forget her smile, her laugh and the joy she brought to every person she met, especially my grandmother. You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers as you face the difficult days ahead.

I remember having Mrs Reedy in the second grade in the early sixties. She was new then but was a very good teacher. Sorry to hear of her passing.

There is nothing more beautiful than a baby's first cry, or more precious that a person's last sigh. One leaves the earth just as one enters! On their journey as they pass by each other a message of love is given to the new arrivals. The beauty of Heaven soon is seen , tears of joy from angels all around. The bright lights of the delivery room , with tears of joy from family all around. The gift of love was left by Maxine as she made her last sigh, to family and every student she taught. The time was right she left all they would to carry on without saddnes. Though she will be missed in every thought in the head. Love for her is carried on in the heart. God bless the family God's love is with you all.

Maxine was a sensational presense- as glittery and sparkling inside as her jewelry and spangled clothing. She always made me feel like I was with a movie star - a kindly one with old Hollywood grace and glamour. She was easy to admire and adore. More than that Maxine made me feel like a star when I was with her too. She was a great listener who asked good questions and offered gentle advice and support. It made me feel important, admired, and loved. I'll miss Maxine's humor - her effervescent spirit - and our talks. I'm so proud to call her my friend.
