Joyce Nunley

MARION, Va.: JOYCE NUNLEY, age 73, died Monday, February 13,2017 at Smyth County Community Hospital. She was born March 19, 1943 in Portsmouth, Va. to the late Albertus and Ruby Hoffman. Joyce was a loving wife to her dear husband, Howard, for twenty-three years. She was an optimistic, kind, and gracious lady, who was amazing in the kitchen. Her children, grandchildren and friends will miss her brown beans, cornbread, applesauce cake and ham biscuits. Joyce had a gift of making you feel right at home, which was one of her and Howard’s happiest places. In her earlier years, she enjoyed playing Bridge, but that was surpassed by her love of being a grandmother. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Brenda Hoffman; and brothers, Jimmy Hoffman and Gary Hoffman; and sister-in-law, Bonnie Nunley. Joyce is survived by her husband, Howard Nunley of Marion, Va.; seven daughters, Lisa Myers and husband, Ken of Albuquerque, N.M., Janet Bunnell and husband, Stephen of Blackstone, Va., Emily Ryback of Monroe, N.C., Kim Collins and husband, Mike Jones, Stacy Nunley and fiancé, Ed Testerman , Leanne Hyler and husband, Daniel, all of Rural Retreat, Va., and Ashley Alley of Wytheville, Va.; step-son, John Copeland of York, S.C.; step-daughter, Bonnie DiGiovanni of Nags Head, N.C.; 12 grandchildren, Michael Myers, Nathaniel Myers, Sterling Bunnell, Ainslie Ryback, Scott Johnson, Jamen Nunley, Kelleigh Hyler, Acelon Nunley, Alijeh Nunley, Draven Felty, Ariana Nunley, and Zoey Sura; great-grandchild, Kasen Johnson; brother-in-law, Coy Nunley; sister-in-law, Peg Crusenberry and husband, Will; several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Ruth Russell of Marion, Va. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, February 18, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel. Burial will follow in Attoway Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, February 17, 2017 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the family at www.seaverbrown.com.
