James Allen Boehm

James Allen Boehm was born on October 24th, 1955—his mother’s birthday—in Racine, Wisconsin and entered his eternal life surrounded by his loving family and friends on January 6th, 2018 at St. Joseph’s hospital in Atlanta, GA. He lived the past three years of his life with a Left Ventricular Assist Device while waiting for a heart transplant and was cared for by his loving wife of 30 years, Judy Boehm.

He was a graduate of Marion Sr. High School in Marion, VA, an Air Force veteran, a graduate of the University of Texas at Arlington, a Biology teacher, and a coach of ice and roller hockey in Ft. Worth, TX and Atlanta, GA.

Together with his wife Judy, he created and managed the Class Act Band in Atlanta, that played at many of Atlanta’s top events including the New Year’s Peach Drop, the Lighting of the Lawrenceville Christmas tree, and countless Society Balls and weddings. His many talents included playing the guitar and the harmonica.

James was known for his love of music and laughter, his compassion, his coaching, and his encouragement of young people. He was amiable, always engaged people in conversation, and deeply loved his family.

James is preceded in death by his father, Ralph George Boehm, and his infant son, Joshua. He will forever be remembered and cherished by his wife, Judy, son, James J. Boehm of Seattle, WA; mother Dolores Boehm of Marion, VA; brothers: David (Dottie) Boehm of Marion, VA; twin brother Steven (Barbara) Boehm of Salt Lake City, UT; Mark Boehm of Atlanta, GA; Ralph (Gay) Boehm of Fort Worth, TX; sisters Dr. Mary Rose Boehm of Clermont, FL; Renee (Mark) Sambol of Atlanta, GA; and aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends.

Hello, David, I was visiting my mother in Chilhowie recently, and she showed me James' obituary in the Bristol paper. I just want to say I'm sorry for your loss and hope you and all James' family and friends are finding some peace in knowing that James's life -- as described in the newspaper -- was rich, full, and joyful, and affected those around him in such positive ways. My family and I have lived in Grayson County since 1978. Terry and I married in 1973. We have two children, a boy and a girl who are all grown up now. We are retired but busier than we have ever been. I remember our high school friendship well and know you played a real part in helping me become who I am. Best wishes, Deb Clark
