d. March 14, 2018

SALTVILLE, Va.

George F. Cook, Jr. age 77, died Wednesday, March 14, 2018 in Roanoke, Va.

George, Poppy, Jack or Pete – however you knew George Cook, he loved his family, his farm and his country. He grew up in Rich Valley. In fact, he graduated from Rich Valley High School in 1957 and the day after enlisted in the US Air Force where his service, the greatest experience of his life, took him around the world – Germany to New Mexico to Florida just to name a few. He retired from the Air Force in 1967 and returned to work his family farm in Rich Valley where he loved working with his cows, hay and equipment. He could fix anything and loved his time on the farm where he spent many years riding his grandsons on his tractor and four-wheeler. George Fred Cook, Jr. was just a good man and he will be missed.

George was preceded in death by his parents, George F. Cook and Jettie Cook Duty; sister, Irene Neal Cook; many special cousins and a special friend, Campbell Burnop.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Patsy Carter Cook of Saltville, Va.; daughter Kim Cook Sayers and husband, Steve of Marion, Va.; son, Geoffrey F. Cook and wife Annasue of Chilhowie, VA; sister, Carol Cook Woodrum and husband, David of Marion, Va.; brother, Henry S. Cook, Marion, Va; two grandchildren, the loves and light of his life, G. Matthew Cook of Chilhowie, Va. and J. Tyler Sayers of Marion, Va.; nephews, John Henry Fouch and wife, Sarah and Scott Cook and wife, Shannon, Davey Woodrum and wife Cathy; niece, Tammy Altizer and husband, Bill.
