Most of all, Alice will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, who will be missed.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 20 years, Van B. Thompson; and sister, Catherine Dolinger.

Alice is survived by her son, John Robert Thompson, Sr. and wife, Gaynell of Marion, Va.; granddaughter, Jeannie Pennington of Chilhowie, Va.; grandson, John Robert Thompson, Jr. and wife, Mickey of Christiansburg, Va.; great-grandchildren, Ashley Flory and husband, Justin, and Megan Gillispie; sister, Bertie Thompson, all of Marion, Va.; five great-great-grandchildren, Hunter, Titan, Olivia, Kaylee and Athena; step-great-grandchildren, Amanda and Codie; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at 7 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Pastor Jimmy Taylor officiating. Burial in Linder Cole Cemetery in Grayson County, Va. will be private. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5 p.m. until the time of service.

I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your loved one. When someone we love dies, its natural to want to see that person again. God promises us that He will comfort us in our trials if we go to him in prayer. 2 Corinthians 1:3 calls him the God of all comfort. Id like to share with yall this link that shows 12 steps on coping with grief that is good for sharing. I have personally found this very comforting and I hope yall do as well. https://www.jw.org/finder?wtlocale=E&docid=102018086&srcid=share
