Seaver-Brown Funeral Service has a long standing representation of service to the residents of Smyth County for over 150 years. A fifth generation family business, W.C. Seaver started the undertaking establishment in 1844 and later bringing his two sons into the funeral practice. One of the sons, George W. Seaver choose to stay in Marion and operate what was then called Seaver & Sons Mortuary. In later years his son, William B. Seaver came into the business, and was instrumental in the daily operations until his death in 1945. At that time, Bill Seaver's widow, Margaret B. Seaver formed a partnership with Malcolm M. Brown, Jr., grandson of George W. Seaver and son of Maude Seaver Brown and ran the funeral home until 1964 at which time Mr. Brown purchased the remaining interest from Mrs. Seaver. Since that time, the funeral home has been in the caring hands of Malcolm and his son, Malcolm M. Brown, III, who is known to all as "Mal". In all these years, Seaver-Brown has been known for having a most capable staff in serving the friends of Marion and Smyth County and our goal is to help you design a ceremony which reflects the life of your family member and your personal wishes. Seaver-Brown Funeral Service is a member of the Order of The Golden Rule, The Independent Funeral Homes of Virginia, the National Funeral Directors Association, Southwest Virginia Funeral Directors Association and the Cremation Association of North America.
